News and Hues

We’ve had a busy spring so far!

Catching up:

Project Search

Sophia spent the past year as an intern in Project Search, a one-year program for post-grad students with disabilities. The program gives interns real-life work experience and independent living skills to help the transition to a productive adult life. Sophia participated in the program run by Stafford County Public Schools and Mary Washington Healthcare. Now that Sophia has graduated from Project Search, the job hunt begins. (With lots of time set aside to create art, too!)

Ballet

In May, the Fredericksburg Academy of Ballet performed Sleeping Beauty – and Sophia was a garland dancer.

Murals

Work continues with Gabe Pons and his team on the latest mural, at James Monroe High School. Heading into the homestretch!

On the Road Again

We loved visiting Portland, Maine and getting to see Sophia’s Uncle George. He took us around to get reacquainted with all the sites and fun stuff in this great city. Aside from the lobstah, one highlight was seeing Portland Head Light, the oldest lighthouse in Maine – and the most photographed one in the country. If you happen to get to Maine, stop by – it’s lovely!

Another highlight was our afternoon at the Portland Museum of Art. We especially enjoyed the exhibit of the work of Jeremy Frey, a seventh-generation Passamaquoddy basket maker and one of the most celebrated Indigenous weavers in the country.

Sophia visited NYC for Spring Break and loved dropping by the Museum of the City of New York and the Met.

Come see us at the Sophiola booth at farmers markets and art fairs!
